and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:7

Dr David Jeremiah and his Overcomers Tour

It was a pleasure to have Dr. David Jeremiah on to talk about his Overcomer Tour.  This is an evening of Unstoppable Strength, Unmovable Faith and Unbelievable Power……

YOU CAN OVERCOME!

Here’s some good news: You can OVERCOME. God wants you to overcome. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV).

God says, “we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37, NKJV). He has given us supernatural weapons of warfare; these don’t just protect us from the enemy, they are our offensive armor. They enable us to overcome obstacles like fears that prey on on your life.

Take a minute to listen to Dr. Jeremiah.

Politics and the Gospel

I was visiting Fellowship Greenville a few weeks back and the “teaching” hit home with me: Politics and the Gospel. Charlie Boyd is one of my favorites and I enjoy hearing him when I can be away from my home at Christ Church Episcopal.  I have talked about many times over the past couple of years how we live in very trying times. I have never witnessed such divisiveness….such anger…there is no civility in our political process anymore.  What do we do???   This has been especially so these past couple of weeks as we have witnessed the modern day crucifying of Judge Brett Kavanaugh….and his family(I say his family because last week he told the story of his young daughter suggesting prayer for his accuser ) and now the left is making fun of her…for praying.

The mixing of politics and church has long been debated as to the appropriate level to which one should involve each of these important parts of our lives. I have read Romans in the past, but not until I listened to Charlie did I truly have clarity of the role the Gospel plays in our political lives.  This is the statement that got my attention: “if we do not live the Gospel in our politics then we won’t live it effectively in the other areas of our lives.” BINGO!!  Read Romans 13:1-8 when you have a minute. Better yet watch Charlie Boyd teach this lesson….only after you listen to my segment below as I talked about this topic on my show recently.

100 -year-old Helping Children She Has Never Met

Each morning, 100-year-old Eva wakes up between 2 and 5 am. She immediately always takes a seat at her sewing machine. Eva spends each morning making clothes to place in shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

These special boxes are then delivered to children all over the world who, otherwise, might not receive a Christmas present. Eva is extremely passionate about making clothes and says, “I can’t get up on a platform and give a message—that isn’t my work.

The Lord has given me hands with no arthritis, so I do a lot of sewing—I’ve been given a talent and I make use of it.” What an amazing way to use your God-given talents to help others in need.

It’s Planting Season!!

I’m sure you recognize this….a car load of plants. Are you like Peg and me when shopping for plants and kinda like the ol’ saying “bite off more than you chew” except with plants it “dig up more than you can plant???” As we go into the summer planting season we have that spirit of renewal as we plant beautiful young flowers with the anticipation of watching them grow into mature blooming examples of God’s creation…only to see them wilt in the fall/winter and we start over again. Kinda like life in general, huh? – young couples welcoming the birth of God’s newest children while we sadly say goodbye to old friends as they go on to meet their Savior. God wants us to forget the sorrow of saying goodbye and just enjoy the beauty of the colorful blooms while His plants are at their peak and know that he will comfort us when we do have to say goodbye. This applies to both the beautiful plants of summer and dear friendships we share with others. On this Memorial weekend let’s pause to remember, and thank, those who fought to preserve our freedoms while giving the ultimate sacrifice.

Miracle Hill in Motion

Join Miracle Hill  for their multi-county fundraising event that gets the Upstate in motion to raise awareness for the homeless and hurting and to support Miracle Hill’s shelters and programs.  Participants can choose a walk in Spartanburg or Gaffney or ride a challenging cycling route through the beautiful rolling hills and mountains of the Upstate. Kid Raiser is an opportunity for kids to give back by walking a 5K or completing a Ninja Warrior Course. Sandy Furnell joined me today to tell you all about it!!!!

Pentecost

Toxaway Church

A beautiful Sunday in the mountains.  What a great Pentecost service at Lake Toxaway United Methodist Church.  Pastor Marcus Dodson preached about the need for a revival (my words, not his) of the church in America.  Christianity is growing tremendously in Africa and South America while our numbers dwindle in the good ole US of A. With another school shooting this week (Sante Fe, TX) one has to wonder if the breakdown of the family and our Christian values is not the blame rather than the guns used to commit the crime?  The family of the shooter expressed their grief and surprise in a statement:

“We share the public’s hunger for answers as to why this happened,” the statement continues, “and will await the outcome of the investigation before speaking about these events.”  – Pagourtzis family statement

…and I understand the tragedy  has to be hard for shooter’s family, as well.  But, one does wonder how this young man was so troubled that he would take guns to his school and kill 10 people without his family knowing he was struggling with personal anger, rage and whatever causes these violent actions.

In all of these tragedies there is also the demonstration of good in people as Pro Football player JJ Watt is offering to pay for these kids funerals.

So, on this Pentecost Sunday let us remember what Acts 2:21 promise:  “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
