House Spending Bill “Plan B” Defeated!
House Republicans just faced a major setback in their efforts to avert a government shutdown. In a surprising defeat, the GOP failed to pass a spending bill that was backed by President-elect Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson. Some are saying this was a crucial test of Trump’s ability to rally the Republican majority, and the vote didn’t go his way. However, I don’t believe this was a vote against Trump…but some solid fiscal conservatives in the House just couldn’t vote in favor of more debt and that’s what their constituents sent them to Washington for…right?
The bill went down by a vote of 235-174, with 38 Republicans joining Democrats to kill the legislation. Not only did the bill fail to meet the two-thirds majority needed to fast-track it, but it also fell short of the 218 votes required under normal rules.
Were these 38 Republicans heroes….or trouble makers? Text your comments to the Firmin Ford text line 864-477-JOEY(5639)
