A TOP HOUSE DEMOCRAT IS UNDER FIRE OVER VOTER ID — AND A NEW FEDERAL ELECTION FRAUD CASE IN CALIFORNIA IS RAISING QUESTIONS ABOUT ELECTION SECURITY.

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar has opposed stricter voter ID requirements in his home state of California. Now, following federal charges against 28 noncitizens in California election-related cases, critics are questioning his position.

The Justice Department says 11 people were arrested in the latest operation, with 28 defendants charged overall. The allegations involve unlawful voter registration and, in many cases, voting by people who were not U.S. citizens.

But do these cases demonstrate weaknesses in election safeguards? Would additional voter ID requirements have prevented the alleged offenses? And how should lawmakers balance election security with access to the ballot?

We’ll examine the charges, the political arguments and the debate over voter identification.

OBAMA-APPOINTED JUDGE ACCUSED OF MISCONDUCT IN TRUMP-RELATED CASE

A federal judge is facing allegations of misconduct in a legal dispute involving the Trump administration.

The controversy centers on the administration’s proposed Anti-Weaponization Fund, which was intended to compensate people who claimed they were unfairly targeted by federal law enforcement.

We’ll examine the reported misconduct complaint, the underlying court dispute and the distinction between allegations against a judge and an official finding of judicial wrongdoing.

ILHAN OMAR DENIES IMMIGRATION FRAUD ALLEGATIONS

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is pushing back against allegations concerning her former marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.

Omar denies that she married a sibling or entered into a marriage to obtain immigration benefits.

The controversy has generated renewed national attention amid reports of a federal investigation, but the underlying allegations have not been established in court.

We’ll examine what Omar has said, the claims being circulated and what evidence would be necessary to substantiate accusations of immigration fraud.

GREENVILLE’S PROPOSED PENNY SALES TAX — CARLTON OWEN JOINS US

Greenville County voters are being asked to approve another penny sales tax on November 3.

Carlton Owen, chairman of Investing for Greenville’s Future, joins us to discuss the proposal and explain why his organization believes the additional tax is needed.

The countywide proposal would add a 1% sales tax on eligible purchases to fund roads, bridges, intersections, transit and land preservation.

Supporters say the proposal would help address years of infrastructure needs in one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing areas.

But many taxpayers have a different question: Why does government keep coming back asking for just one more penny?

We’ll ask Carlton about:

Why existing tax revenue isn’t enough to maintain Greenville’s infrastructure.
How much the proposal would collect and where the money would go.
Whether the promised oversight and accountability measures are strong enough.
What would happen if voters reject the tax.
Why some Greenville-area residents may face separate county and municipal sales tax questions on the same ballot.

It’s an important conversation before voters make their decision on November 3.
