A federal judge appointed by former President Joe Biden has refused to dismiss the criminal case against a Democratic member of Congress accused of assaulting federal immigration officers.
The ruling allows the case to move forward and gives the Trump administration a significant court victory.
We’ll examine exactly what the Democrat is accused of doing, the argument for dismissing the charges and why the judge rejected it.
And it’s worth emphasizing: this ruling does not determine guilt or innocence. But politically, the fact that a Biden-appointed judge rejected the effort to throw out the case certainly makes this one more interesting.
🏛️ PHILADELPHIA DA: “AFTER WE ALL BLOW IT UP”
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is facing criticism over comments involving President Donald Trump’s new White House ballroom.
Krasner joked that he’d like to keep a piece of the ballroom as a paperweight after “we all blow it up.”
Was it obviously political hyperbole—or does a public official, particularly a prosecutor, have a responsibility to be more careful when joking about blowing up part of the White House?

📱 META’S MASSIVE SOCIAL-MEDIA SETTLEMENT
Meta has agreed to pay as much as $17.1 BILLION and make significant changes to teen accounts to resolve claims that its social-media platforms were deliberately designed to keep children hooked.
The litigation centered on allegations involving Facebook and Instagram and claims that Meta misled parents and the public about potential dangers to young users.
The larger question goes beyond one company:
What responsibility should social-media companies have when their products are being used for hours every day by children?
And where does parental responsibility fit into the equation?
💰 SOUTH CAROLINA LAWMAKERS APPROVE $350 MILLION IN LOCAL SPENDING
And here in South Carolina, lawmakers are spending some money.
The General Assembly has approved approximately $350 million in legislator-sponsored projects across the state.
The list includes parks, building renovations, water and sewer projects, first-responder equipment and a wide variety of other local initiatives.
Some of these projects may be worthwhile investments that communities genuinely need.
But whenever lawmakers approve hundreds of millions of dollars in locally directed spending, taxpayers should be asking some basic questions:
Who requested the money? Where is it going? How were the projects selected? And are taxpayers getting $350 million worth of value?
